ISIS Threatens: More Attacks Against Iranians Are Coming

The Islamic State group, ISIS, on Wednesday, June 7, issued a statement claiming that its members were responsible for Wednesday’s attacks in Tehran, and threatened that more attacks against Iranians are on the way.

According to Reuters news agency, the ISIS group, which calls itself the Islamic Caliphate, stated in its message with reference to Iran that “the Caliphate will not miss any opportunity to spill their blood” until Islamic Sharia law is implemented in Iran.

On Wednesday, June 7, two teams of armed individuals attacked the Islamic Consultative Assembly and the mausoleum of the founder of the Islamic Republic in Tehran. In these attacks, a total of 12 people were killed and approximately 42 others were wounded and injured, and the attackers were also killed.

The Islamic Republic government in Iran implements Islamic Sharia law in accordance with Shiite principles, and ISIS has repeatedly declared that it considers Shiites as apostates and fights against them.

Iran is also one of the main supporters of the Iraqi government in the fight against the Islamic State group, and the Islamic Republic has provided assistance in organizing Iraqi Shiite militias in the war against ISIS.

Iran is also a major supporter of Bashar al-Assad’s government in Syria’s civil war against ISIS and other forces opposed to Bashar al-Assad.

ISIS’s new threat against Iran comes as on Wednesday, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps also announced that it would take revenge on those responsible for Wednesday’s attacks in Tehran and their “supporters.”

ISIS previously threatened Iran on March 28 of this year by releasing a video titled “The Land of Persia; From Yesterday to Today,” in Persian.

In this 36-minute video, a man with a covered face read a message addressed to Ayatollah Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, saying: “O Khamenei, O cursed one who controls what is called the Islamic Republic, be assured that very soon we will destroy your house over your head.”

The Islamic State group in this video accused Iran of suppressing Sunnis in Iran for centuries, and one of the men present in this video said: “We will conquer Iran and restore this country to the Sunnis as it was in the past.”

The narrator of this video continued, stating that “Iran chants slogans against America and Israel, but Jews in this country are safe and protected, and they have their synagogues and places of worship in Isfahan and Tehran.”

Before that, on November 16, 2015, Ahmad Reza Pourdastan, commander of Iran’s Ground Force, referring to that year’s ISIS threats following the Paris attacks, said: “ISIS has threatened that options after France include Russia and Iran, and in this regard, Iraq’s Foreign Minister also gave the necessary warning, but the Islamic Republic of Iran’s army announces that it is not afraid of these threats.”

Meanwhile, Mohammad Ismail Kousheri, one of the officials of the Defense Committee of the Islamic Consultative Assembly who was previously a senior commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a few days before Ahmad Reza Pourdastan’s remarks, sarcastically said to French officials, “If France cannot ensure the security of its people against ISIS, it should entrust this task to Iranian advisors.”
