Narges Mansouri Arrested

Narges Mansouri, a civil activist and signatory to a statement calling for the Supreme Leader’s resignation, has been arrested by security forces.

According to Hrana news agency citing IRNA, civil activist Narges Mansouri was arrested by security forces.

The Islamic Republic News Agency reported in its account that her arrest took place while she was leaving the country at a land border.

Based on this report, a prison sentence for Ms. Mansouri that had not been implemented since 2019 was about to be executed by a judicial officer.

Narges Mansouri is a civil activist and member of the syndicate of workers at the Tehran and Suburban Bus Company and one of the signatories of a statement by 14 female civil activists calling for Ayatollah Khamenei’s resignation. In November 2019, she was sentenced by Branch 26 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court under the chairmanship of Judge Afshari to five years imprisonment on charges of “assembly and conspiracy against national security” and one year imprisonment on charges of “propaganda against the system.”

Narges Mansouri was arrested on August 12, 2019 while returning from work by security forces and after spending 20 days in one of the solitary confinement cells of the IRGC Intelligence Detention Center, known as Ward 2-A of Evin Prison, she was interrogated and subsequently transferred to Qarchak Prison in Varamin and finally to Evin Prison. She was released on November 13, 2019 after posting a bail of 500 million tomans.
