New Daily Record for COVID-19 Cases in Iran; Death Toll Remains Above 600

According to the latest official statistics on COVID-19 cases and deaths in Iran announced by the Ministry of Health, in the past 24 hours, 50,228 people have been infected with coronavirus, which is considered a new record.

The Iranian Ministry of Health has also announced that during this period, 625 people have died, and the total death toll has exceeded 99,000 people.

The official statistics on coronavirus deaths in Iran are being announced while previously the Medical System Organization estimated the actual death toll in Iran to be three to four times higher than the official figures announced by the Ministry of Health.

Officials at the Iranian Ministry of Health had previously stated that over the coming month, the number of COVID-19 cases and deaths would increase.

Hamid Souri, an advisor to the health minister, said on Sunday evening, August 16, referring to this matter, that “holding large gatherings” is the main concern of health and medical officials, and in cities like Mashhad, “if the situation continues as it is, the number of hospitalizations and deaths will certainly increase dramatically”.
