Official Coronavirus Statistics; Death Toll Surpasses 25,000, Tehran in Critical Red Status

According to Iran’s Ministry of Health statistics, with 175 coronavirus patients dying in the past 24 hours, the official death toll from this virus in Iran has exceeded 25,000.

The head of Tehran City Council announced that the number of coronavirus victims in Tehran has increased again after a period of decline, reaching 70 deaths per day.

Sima Lari, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, on Thursday, September 24, reported in her daily briefing the identification of 3,521 new COVID-19 patients and stated that currently nearly 4,000 patients with severe illness are under intensive care.

According to this official report, the total number of coronavirus patients in Iran has reached 436,319.

The accuracy of the daily official statistics announced by the Ministry of Health has been seriously questioned by some independent experts, and some sources claim that the number of cases and deaths in Iran is between two to several times higher than the official figures.

In another report, Mohsen Hashemi, head of Tehran City Council, said: “The number of coronavirus deaths in Tehran previously rose to over 100 per day and then decreased to 49, but now this number has increased again and reached 70 deaths per day.”

In this regard, Iraj Harirchi, Deputy Health Minister of Iran, declared Tehran province’s situation as “critical red” on Tuesday, September 1, and simultaneously Mostafa Moin, head of Iran’s Supreme Council of Medical Order, reported the hospitalization of 700 people in Tehran within a 24-hour period and described it as a “major catastrophe.”

Regarding provinces in warning conditions, he said: “The provinces of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, Hormozgan, Fars, and Golestan are also in warning status.”

According to the Ministry of Health announcement, currently the provinces of Tehran, Isfahan, Qom, East Azerbaijan, South Khorasan, Semnan, Qazvin, Lorestan, Ardabil, Khuzestan, Kermanshah, Gilan, Bushehr, Zanjan, Ilam, Razavi Khorasan, Mazandaran, Alborz, West Azerbaijan, Central, Kerman, North Khorasan, Hamadan, and Yazd are in red status.

The provinces of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, Hormozgan, Fars, and Golestan are also in warning status.

Two provinces, Sistan and Baluchestan and Kurdistan, are the only provinces currently declared as white zones in Iran, and the reason for this distinction is unclear.
