Pope Francis: The World is on the Brink of the Abyss

Pope Francis warned in an interview with “La Stampa” that the world is on the brink of the abyss.

Pope Francis, the leader of Catholics worldwide, warned in an interview with the Italian newspaper “La Stampa” that the world is on the brink of the abyss while calling for a global ceasefire.

In an interview with Domenico Agasso, a journalist at La Stampa, he said: “The Oslo Accords have made the two-state solution very clear, and until this agreement is implemented, true peace will not be near.”

While emphasizing that dialogue is the only way forward toward a peaceful future, Pope Francis called on everyone to pray for an end to war and the beginning of global peace. He called for an end to hostilities and the hostile behavior of countries that attack other nations with bombs and missiles, and while warning that we are on the brink of the abyss, he demanded a global ceasefire.

Referring to the fact that war is completely wrong in practice, Pope Francis said: “I am opposed to considering any war as just, and I prefer to use the term legitimate defense. Every attempt to portray war as just must be avoided.”

While expressing concern over the escalation of military tensions throughout the Middle East, he expressed hope in the efforts and confidential meetings aimed at reaching an agreement for a ceasefire and announced that these efforts will yield good results.
