Reuters: United States Considering Removing IRGC from Terrorist Groups List

Reuters news agency, citing informed sources, claimed that the United States is considering removing the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) from its list of terrorist groups.

An informed source told Reuters on Wednesday that the United States is reviewing the possibility of delisting the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps from the list of foreign terrorist organizations in exchange for receiving assurances regarding the restraint of proxy militias supported by Tehran.

The source added that Washington has not yet decided what commitment from Tehran might be acceptable.

The IRGC was added to the United States’ terrorist blacklist in 2019 by former U.S. President Donald Trump, and its removal from this list could provoke sharp criticism from Republicans.

The IRGC was the first official military institution of a country to be placed on this list.

This comes as it was previously reported that Tehran had raised the removal of the IRGC from this list as one of the conditions for any agreement.
