Saeid Mortazavi Leaves the Country

Sohila. FCN News Agency: Despite having an ongoing case in judicial courts and a private plaintiff in his social security file, Saeid Mortazavi managed to leave the country.

According to FCN News, this legal departure of an accused person from the country has caused concerns in Iran, with fears that this criminal will follow the same path as other government corrupt officials who conduct their affairs outside the country.

Ibrahim, a political analyst who did not wish to disclose his name due to residing in Iran, told FCN News: “Mortazavi left the country under the pretext of attending Arbaeen ceremonies and it is unclear where he will travel after Iraq. Of course, according to his lawyer, he was legally permitted to leave the country, while he is still legally considered an accused and should appear in court.”

He pointed out: Legal restrictions on travel bans for the accused are so strict that men are banned from leaving the country if their wives request it and they are unable to pay their mahr. Given this situation, it is highly questionable why someone like Saeid Mortazavi was not banned from traveling.

According to this citizen, with Mortazavi’s departure from Iran and his travel to Iraq becoming public, this question has formed in many people’s minds without a legal answer. For this reason, he predicts there will be no return.

However, he emphasizes that many analysts are watching to see what measures Mortazavi’s accomplices in the Islamic Republic regime will take to save themselves from this accused person’s threats.

According to this political analyst, some opponents of the rulings issued in these cases claim that threatening Mortazavi’s fellow officials has led to his acquittal.

He added: “This accused person announced at the end of one of the court sessions, addressing the judge, that he had taken copies of all documents and records related to his activities out of the country. Indirectly, he had said that if my way of salvation is blocked, all my accomplices will be exposed. And we saw that this threat led to his acquittal in the Kahrizak case and complicity in murders. Furthermore, they easily saved him from the embezzlement charge in the social security file and the transfer of public assets of social security insured workers to Babak Zanjani.”

According to FCN News, Mortazavi has so far been acquitted in two of his judicial cases. The courts acquitted him in the Kahrizak case.

The verdict in the social security case is still a first instance and subject to appeal. The plaintiffs in this case, who are a group of insured workers, have sought this appeal of the issued verdict.

These workers claim that the judge could have also considered “embezzlement” when applying his action to a criminal charge. In that case, Saeid Mortazavi would have been sentenced to restitution, but in the first instance court, he was sentenced to 70 and 65 lashes for the charges of illegal possession and negligence in performing his duty.

A verdict has not yet been issued for Mortazavi’s third case.
