Schools in Several Iranian Cities Closed Due to Air Pollution

Air pollution in Isfahan and East Azerbaijan provinces has led to the closure of schools in Tabriz and Isfahan, as well as 14 other cities.

The General Directorate of Education in East Azerbaijan issued a notice declaring schools in Tabriz closed due to air pollution on Wednesday.

The secretary of Isfahan’s air pollution emergency conditions working group also announced the closure of in-person educational activities at all educational levels and stages on Wednesday.

Schools in the cities of Isfahan, Shahin Shahr, Dolatabad, Mobarakeh, Foolad Shahr, Najafabad, and several other cities in Isfahan Province will remain closed.

Many experts and even officials have attributed the worsening air pollution in winter to the replacement of fuel oil at power plants due to gas shortage.

Rouhollah Motafakkereazad, representative from Tabriz, reported that fuel oil combustion has resumed once again at Tabriz thermal power plant.
