Senior US Official: Israel Was Behind Fakhrizadeh’s Killing
A high-ranking US government official says the killing of Iran’s senior nuclear and missile program expert was carried out by Israel. However, he did not say whether the Trump administration was aware of or supported the operation.
A US official said on Wednesday, December 2, in an interview with CNN that while referring to the killing of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh by Israel, he added that Israelis have in the past informed the US government of their objectives before carrying out covert operations. However, he did not say whether such notification was provided in this case.
This senior official from Donald Trump’s administration, US President, whose name CNN did not disclose, said that nuclear expert Mohsen Fakhrizadeh had been one of Israel’s targets for a long time.
According to this official, since the assassination attempt occurred, there has been no increase in the level of threat Iran poses to America in the region, since Iranian officials hold Israel responsible for killing this person.
He added, however, that the United States believes that Iranians have not yet retaliated for the killing of Qasem Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and this is a matter that US intelligence services are carefully monitoring.
