Solidarity with Peaceful Protesters Against Racism in America; In Defense of the Universal Right to Peaceful Protest
The killing of George Floyd was not merely the murder of an individual but also an assault on justice and the rule of law. It is yet another example of the many instances of organized police violence against people of color that have gone unpunished.
The Human Rights Campaign in Iran, while condemning this murder, extends its deepest condolences to Mr. Floyd’s family and commends and supports all those who are taking to peaceful protests against racism and lawlessness, which continue to grip American police forces.
According to Bryan Stevenson, an American human rights lawyer and social activist, “Despair is the enemy of justice.” Let us all strive to identify and eradicate such injustices, wherever they occur, so that the day comes when the life of no innocent person is taken by those we rely on to protect us.
