Tehranis Breathed the Most Polluted Air of This Year in the Past 24 Hours

According to a spokesperson for Tehran’s air quality control authority, from 8 AM on December 23 to 8 AM on December 24, Tehran residents breathed the most polluted air of this year. Tehran’s air pollution index during this period was 174 and above the dangerous level.

Since the beginning of the year 1399 until now, Tehran residents have experienced the most polluted air in the past 24 hours. According to the spokesman of Tehran’s air quality control company, from 8 AM on Tuesday, December 23 to 8 AM on Wednesday, December 24, Tehran’s air pollution index was 174.

An air pollution index when it reaches above 150 is considered dangerous for all individuals.

Leila Nazari told the Mehr news agency that this pollution will likely continue today and tonight.

Based on this report, December has been the unhealthiest month of this year in Tehran.

According to Ms. Nazari, from the beginning of December until today, December 24, Tehran has only had three days in healthy conditions and 11 days in unhealthy conditions for all citizens. Ten days were also in unhealthy conditions for sensitive groups.

One of the most recent causes cited for Tehran’s air pollution is the use of fuel oil in power plants.

Bijan Zanganeh, the Minister of Power, while confirming this matter, said that people should consume less electricity “so that we are not forced to use fuel oil to supply power plants.”

The severe air pollution in Tehran yesterday occurred while most areas of the city experienced power outages the previous day.
