Two Iranian Navy Warships Pass Near Denmark in the Baltic Sea

According to a report by the Danish Navy, the Iranian Navy’s support ship Makran and the corvette Sahand have been observed in the waters of the Baltic Sea. It is said that these two vessels are heading toward the port of Saint Petersburg.
The Associated Press reported, citing the Danish Navy, that the largest warship of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Navy and an Iranian corvette have been observed in the waters of the Baltic Sea.
The Makran, a helicopter-carrying support ship, is considered one of the latest vessels of the Islamic Republic’s military.
On Thursday, July 22, the Danish Navy released images of the Makran support ship and the Sahand corvette passing through the “Fehmarn Belt” strait and near the island of “Bornholm,” which belongs to Denmark.
The aforementioned strait is located in the Baltic Sea waters between Denmark and Germany.
According to Iranian news agencies, including IRNA, the mission of the Makran support ship and Sahand corvette is to participate in the 325th anniversary celebration of the founding of the Russian Navy, and their participation in this ceremony is at the invitation of the Russian Defense Ministry.
It is said that Admiral Hossein Khanzadi, commander of the Islamic Republic’s Navy, is also expected to attend the ceremony, which will be held on Sunday, July 25.
According to the Associated Press, the Makran support ship and Sahand corvette departed from Bandar Abbas in May of this year and, after navigating around South African waters, headed toward the Atlantic Ocean.
Maxar Technologies released satellite images showing seven speedboats, which are commonly used in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ maritime operations, positioned on the deck of the Makran support ship. According to the Associated Press, these speedboats are covered.
It was initially reported that these vessels were heading to Venezuela. At that time, the United States had warned Venezuela and Cuba about the docking of Islamic Republic Navy ships in their ports.
The Makran support ship, a logistics vessel capable of carrying helicopters, was unveiled in December of last year.
