Two-Thirds of Baft City Population in Kerman Have Become Marginalized

Mehrdad Aminifar, Kerman’s representative in the High Council of Provinces, while enumerating numerous problems in Kerman province, stated that the phenomenon of marginalization has become one of the major challenges facing the city of Kerman.

He told ILNA news agency: “40,000 people out of Baft’s population of 60,000 have migrated to Kerman and Sirjan. The reason for migration is lack of employment and insufficient facilities including education, healthcare, recreational amenities, and so on. All these issues have combined to result in Kerman having 45,000 marginalized residents.”

According to Aminifar, with the complete drying up of the Jazmourian River, dust storms have also increased.

Kerman’s representative in the High Council of Provinces said that people have voluntarily undertaken tree-planting efforts in desert areas, but some “profit-seeking individuals” have also cut down old trees.
