Video of Young Woman Assault in Abadan; Security Guard Sent to Prison

Following the release of a video showing a young woman in Abadan with “a bloodied face lying on the ground by two other women” and a security guard standing over her with a baton raised, judicial authorities in Khuzestan Province announced on Thursday the arrest of the security guard.
The head of the judiciary in Khuzestan Province stated that the video released showing the altercation with a woman in Abadan “was due to an old dispute and also a financial settlement with one of the oil company’s personnel.”
Sadegh Moradi said the security guard “committed a highly inappropriate act and has been arrested and sent to prison.”
The release of this video on social media generated widespread reactions, with many users heavily criticizing the violence against the woman.
According to IRNA, police issued a statement regarding this incident: “Following the release of a clip on social media in which two women assaulted a young woman and asked neighbors to contact police 110, immediately after public calls, Abadan police arrived at the scene in the shortest possible time and transferred the parties involved in the dispute to the police station.”
In this regard, Hamid Mardanipour, the public prosecutor of Abadan, told IRNA: “Individuals who released the video of this incident on social media will be arrested soon and appropriate action will be taken against them.”
The Abadan prosecutor continued by saying that the main cause of the altercation in the video circulated on social media was “family dispute and previous differences and financial issues.”
Hamid Mardanipour did not provide further details regarding this family altercation and previous disputes.
However, the Rokna website reported that “the Abadan girl had a conflict with the family of one of the prominent men at the Abadan refinery.”
According to the Abadan prosecutor, the woman attempted to enter a house in the “Brim” neighborhood and upon entry got into a dispute with a boy, wounding him with “a sharp instrument.”
Hamid Mardanipour added: “Two women who were in the house got into a dispute with her and wounded her in the face and the altercation was taken outside the house.”
The Abadan prosecutor also said: “After investigations, the assailing woman was released by court order and sent to a medical center for treatment, and the security guard was summoned by the judge and sent to prison.”
The Rokna website reported: “Two women attacked the Abadan girl and broke her nose with heavy blows, and when the fight was taken outside the house, a security guard from the refinery residential complex compound, in an unethical act, not only stepped on the body of the Abadan girl, but then pressed on her body with a baton and finally touched the young girl’s body with his hands.”
The manner in which these two women along with the security guard treated this woman led to protests. However, Khuzestan judicial authorities warned that they would take action against any attempts to create a political atmosphere regarding this incident.
