Minibus collides with trailer on Khavaran Road; 12 injured, one in critical condition

Twelve people were injured after a minibus collided with a trailer on Khavaran Road in Tehran. One of them is reported to be in critical condition.
Jalal Maleki, spokesman for the Fire Department, said the incident occurred around 5 a.m. on Thursday, December 8.
The cause of the accident has not yet been announced, but according to Mr. Maleki, the minibus collided violently with the rear of a cargo trailer that was parked on the side of the road.
On Wednesday, two students were killed and 14 others were injured in a collision between a school minibus and a truck in Kermanshah, and the condition of two other students was declared critical.
News of fatal accidents on Iranian roads has been recurring significantly, especially in the past month.
According to traffic police officials, more than 8,200 people have died in road accidents in Iran in the first seven months of this year, and three people in Tehran lose their lives in traffic accidents every two days.
According to Kamal Hadianfar, head of the traffic police, in the first six months of this year, road accidents increased by 67,000 compared to the same period last year, reaching more than 713 accidents.
Iran is one of the deadliest countries in the region in terms of traffic accidents. The highest number of road accidents in Iran in the last two decades was in 2005, with 27,000 deaths per year. According to an official estimate, between 2011 and 2019, an average of more than 17,000 people were killed on Iranian roads annually.
The Iranian Traffic Police cite human factors, road problems, and vehicle technical defects as the most important causes of road fatalities in the country, in that order.
