Anniversary of the 1979 Revolution; Reza Pahlavi considered the Islamic Republic on the verge of collapse

Reza Pahlavi, the crown prince of Iran during the reign of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, issued a statement on Wednesday on the occasion of the anniversary of the 1979 revolution, strongly protesting the conditions in the country during the Islamic Republic, saying that the current Iranian government is on the verge of collapse.

In this statement, Prince Pahlavi addressed Iran's economic situation and international standing, saying: "Banks have become centers of theft and corruption... Pension funds are bankrupt, and the empty tables of retirees are spread out on the streets."

The statement added: “Our country has unfortunately become the world’s largest sponsor and exporter of terrorism, and the main cause of destruction and instability in the region. All this while the Iranian people, young and old, hunker down to their waists in garbage and spend cold winter nights on buses.”

Mr. Pahlavi also described Iranian women as "defenseless" against the laws of the Islamic Republic, and considered these laws "reactionary" and against women's security.

This political figure continued his statement calling for "solidarity" from all walks of life to overthrow the Islamic Republic, stating: "It is up to us to speak out and act in unison more than ever; to join hands; and, with hope and determination, to eliminate the oppression from our country."

He added: "A crooked load does not reach its destination. The building, whose first brick was placed crooked, has risen so crooked that it is now on the verge of collapse, and it will collapse with a great tremor from the sound of the movement of millions of hardworking and barefoot people, and the roar of the throats of the oppressed and deprived."

Hours before this statement, Queen Farah Pahlavi had also called the 1979 revolution the "Fatna of Bahman 22" in her message and emphasized that "I believe that light will triumph over darkness."

The release of these messages comes at a time when in recent months, officials in the Islamic Republic have expressed dissatisfaction with the attention some people have paid to the Pahlavi dynasty. Among them, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic, who has himself been the target of negative slogans from protesters at every protest rally in recent years, attacked the "dissident" media in his speech on Tuesday of this week, saying that the material these media publish about the Pahlavi era is not negative and strongly criticized this.
