Forensic Medicine: Road accident deaths increased by 9.3% in the first 8 months of this year

Official statistics show that deaths from traffic accidents and road accidents in the first eight months of this year (Farvardin to Aban 1400) increased by 9.3 percent compared to the same period last year. During the same period, the number of injuries also increased by 10.9 percent.

According to Mehr News Agency on Wednesday, January 5, the Forensic Medicine Organization announced that in the first eight months of this year, "11,773 people" died in traffic accidents, "8,715" of which were on suburban roads.

The report stated that the number of people killed in traffic accidents during the same period last year was "10,774."

In addition, 217,159 people were injured in accidents in the first eight months of this year. This figure was 195,800 in the same period last year. Accordingly, the number of traffic accident casualties has increased by 10.9 percent compared to last year.

The Forensic Medicine Organization had previously announced that 17,000 people lose their lives on Iranian roads every year, but the former head of Iran's traffic police said that this casualty figure is also not correct and that it is being reduced by "manipulating the statistics."

According to some experts, Iran's roads and "domestically produced vehicles" are of low standards, and this has directly affected the increase in deaths from accidents, placing the country at the top of the global list in terms of the number and frequency of accidents, as well as fatalities and injuries.
