A Member of Iran Freedom Movement Sentenced to One Year in Prison

Mehdi Motamedi-Mehr, a member of the political office and head of the education committee of the Iran Freedom Movement, was sentenced to one year in prison by the Karaj Revolutionary Court.

According to a report by the Iran Freedom Movement’s Telegram channel, Motamedi-Mehr was brought to court following a complaint by the Intelligence Organization of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and was sentenced to one year of imprisonment on the charge of “propaganda activity against the Islamic Republic of Iran’s system.” Another case has also been filed against Motamedi-Mehr with the charge of “spreading false information.”

According to this Iran Freedom Movement member, the court issued the verdict without any “documentation” and solely based on “reports from the Revolutionary Guard’s informants.”

Motamedi-Mehr had previously been arrested three times and spent four years in prison during the controversial 2009 presidential election protests. He was released from prison in March 2017.
