Brother of Mohammad Hossein Ghonvati, One of November 2019 Protests Victims in Behbahan, Arrested

Human rights sources reported the arrest of Amin Moradi, Payam Jeyhoni, and Mohsen Ghonvati, citizens from Behbahan, coinciding with the anniversary of the November 2019 protests in the city.

Mohsen Ghonvati is the brother of Mohammad Hossein Ghonvati, one of the victims killed during the November 2019 protests in Behbahan.

According to a report by Hrana news agency, these individuals were arrested on Sunday, November 23, by security forces and transferred to security detention centers in Ahvaz and Behbahan Prison.

Based on the report, the second anniversary of the victims of the November 2019 protests was supposed to be held with the presence of families at the graves of the deceased, but in recent days, a number of citizens were summoned by security agencies by phone and were made to commit that they would not participate in the anniversary ceremony.

During the protests in Behbahan in November 2019, Mohammad Hossein Ghonvati, Farzad Ansari Far, Mehrdad and Mahmoud Dashtinia, Mohammad Hashemdar, and Ehsan Abdollahnejad lost their lives as a result of being shot by security forces.

Hrana reported that Mohsen Ghonvati was summoned on November 19 to Branch 3 of the General and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Behbahan. His charges include “insulting the clergy, insulting revolutionary institutions such as the IRGC through an Instagram page, reporting through his own Instagram page regarding the protests and riots of June 2020, propaganda in favor of groups or organizations opposed to the system, and calling for gatherings in unison with enemies of the system.”
