Yasmin Aryani, Civil Activist, Arrested

According to reports published on social media, civil activist Yasmin Aryani was arrested on Wednesday, April 10th by law enforcement officers at her father’s home.

According to available information, Ms. Aryani informed her family during a brief contact after her arrest about being transferred to Vezarat (Ministry) detention center in Tehran, and cited a complaint filed by the Guidance Ministry’s prosecutor’s office as the reason for her arrest.

On Monday, this civil activist and theater actress announced on her personal Twitter account that she had been removed as an actress from the play “Actors Studio” at Malik Theater by the Ministry of Guidance.

One Twitter user cited the distribution of flowers on the occasion of International Women’s Day in Tehran’s metro as the reason for Ms. Aryani’s arrest.

Yasmin Aryani was one of those arrested during the nationwide protests in August 2018, which took place in various Iranian cities in relation to inflation and price increases, in which women also participated, and she was subsequently sentenced to one year in prison.

In February of last year, Amnesty International, in a report, called 2018 the “year of shame” for the Islamic Republic and announced that 112 women’s rights activists were arrested in Iran that year.
