Civil Activist Sepideh Gholian Transferred from Evin Prison to Qarchak Varamin

Following the re-arrest of civil activist Sepideh Gholian in February of last year and the opening of a case against her with four criminal charges, reports indicate that she has been transferred from Evin Prison to Qarchak Varamin Prison.

The Telegram channel of the Haft Tappeh Workers’ Syndicate reported this news, stating that previously Sepideh Gholian and Ismail Bakhshi were transferred from Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz to Evin Prison on Sunday, April 28, 2019, along with Amir (Ali) Amirgholi, on the orders of Islamic Republic security authorities.

Following her second arrest and the opening of a case against her, Sepideh Gholian has been charged with “propaganda activities against the system, conspiracy to commit crimes against national security, cooperation with opposition groups, and disruption of public order.”

Labor activist Ismail Bakhshi and civil activist Sepideh Gholian were first arrested in November of last year during the protests of workers at Haft Tappeh Sugar Company. After their release, both announced that they had been tortured during detention and forced to make “confessions under pressure.”

Amnesty International, in a statement issued on the occasion of International Workers’ Day, called on the Islamic Republic authorities to immediately release workers and civil activists who were arrested during strikes and other peaceful protests.
