Coronavirus in Iran; 14 Provinces in Red Status, 215 More Deaths

Iran’s Health Ministry spokesperson says 14 provinces are currently in red status, while 12 provinces are in warning status.

Sima Lari announced the identification of 2,598 additional coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours and reported 215 deaths from coronavirus during this period. This comes as the death toll from the previous day was 208, indicating an increasing trend.

With the latest figures included, the official death toll from coronavirus in Iran has reached 17,405 people.

These daily figures are announced without confirmation from independent bodies, and some sources have suggested that the actual numbers are several times higher than the official statistics.

The Iranian Parliament’s Research Center estimated the number of victims to be at least double the official figures in its report.

Ms. Lari explained on Monday that the provinces of Central, Gilan, and Yazd have transitioned from warning status to red status, meaning that the number of cases and hospitalizations in many of their cities have shown an increasing trend.

She also stated that the provinces of Fars, Ilam, Lorestan, Hormozgan, Zanjan, Qazvin, West Azerbaijan, Bushehr, Hamadan, Qom, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, and Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad are in warning status.

Health Ministry officials are routinely refraining from providing detailed statistics on the spread of coronavirus in different provinces.
