Coronavirus Vaccine Researcher: Next Winter Will Be Normal

It is likely that two German and American companies will jointly bring the first coronavirus vaccine to market. According to the head of the German company BioNTech, next winter conditions will be normal.

Uğur Şahin, head of the German company BioNTech, stated in an interview with the BBC World Service that if the joint coronavirus vaccine of BioNTech and Pfizer is released to the market soon, there is hope that winter of 2021 (1400) will bring normal conditions.

According to him, given the recent developments in the spread of the new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), this winter will be difficult.

He emphasizes that even if his company’s vaccine is released to the market this year, it will not have an impact on the number of cases for several months to come.

BioNTech and Pfizer are working to provide conditions for delivering 300 million doses of vaccine by April next year.

Summer, a Good Opportunity to Reduce Cases

Professor Şahin believes that during the summer we will witness successes in combating SARS-CoV-2, especially since the number of cases decreases during the warm season.

Despite some German researchers expressing doubt about the success of BioNTech and Pfizer’s vaccine, the European Commission has reached an agreement with them on concluding a major contract. The Commission is to order 300 million doses in the first phase.

According to Ursula von der Leyen, head of the European Commission, this is currently the most promising vaccine produced to prevent coronavirus infection.
