With the death of another student who suffered serious injuries in the container school fire in Dezful, the death toll from this incident has reached two people.

According to IRNA news agency report on the evening of the 8th of Bahman, Amin Eliasi, a 15-year-old student who was burned in this incident, died due to the severity of his injuries.

Nima Hamtaei Chalgard, another 15-year-old student who suffered 50 percent burns in this fire incident, lost his life on the 7th of Bahman.

On the evening of the 30th of Dey, following a fire at a container school in the Sardaasht area of Dezful, three teachers living in the container and three local residents including two students suffered severe burns.

Previously, the cause of this incident was attributed to a lightning strike hitting the container school, but the Director General of Crisis Management of Khuzestan announced the possibility of the incident occurring due to an explosion of a gas cylinder.

The Sardaasht district governor on Wednesday described the general condition of all the injured in this incident as unfavorable and said that one of the injured teachers with more than 80 percent burns had been transferred to a hospital in Isfahan.

Ali Abdollahi Shahabad also said: “If the rural roads in this district had been repaired or paved, the rescue process for the injured in this incident would have been smoother and they would have been transferred to medical centers sooner.”

The unsafe heating system in many schools across the country in recent years has been one of the important challenges for Iran’s Ministry of Education.

The Deputy Minister of Education and head of Iran’s School Renovation Organization announced in 2018 that the heating system of 136 thousand classrooms in the country “does not meet the required standards.”

Mehraleh Rokhshani Mehr cited the main reason as the lack of city gas, especially in areas such as Sistan and Baluchestan province.

In recent years, several fire incidents due to unsafe heating systems during winter have caused deaths and injuries to students and teachers in various parts of Iran.

On the 15th of Azar in 1392 (2013), following a fire in an oil heater at a girls’ elementary school in the village of Shinaabad in Piranshahr, 37 children were injured and two of these girls died due to severe burns.
