Earthquake in Western Kermanshah Leaves Over 150 Wounded

Following an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 on the Richter scale in Tazeh Abad, a suburb of Salsabil County, the governor of Kermanshah reported that over 150 people were injured.

Domestic Iranian news agencies reported on Sunday, July 22, citing Hoshang Bazvand, the governor of Kermanshah, that based on the latest statistics provided at sunset on Sunday, 156 people were injured as a result of the earthquake and a large number of villages were destroyed.

According to Tasnim news agency, the governor of Kermanshah, stating that a crisis management headquarters meeting was held in Salsabil County, said that dozens of people were also injured in Javanroud.

The director of the Red Crescent Society of Kermanshah Province also told the IRNA news agency that 16 rescue teams consisting of 150 rescue workers were sent to the earthquake-stricken city of Tazeh Abad.

The head of the Emergency Organization also said that the earthquake caused a mountain collapse on the east-west route of the Javanroud and Salsabil road.

Last November, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3 on the Richter scale shook areas of Kermanshah Province, including Azkole district and 32 kilometers from Sarpol-e Zahab city in the western part of the province, resulting in 620 deaths and over 12,000 injured.
