Earthquake Shakes Western Kermanshah Province

An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale shook the western regions of Kermanshah Province for the nth time in the past five months.

According to reports, the earthquake that occurred on Sunday, April 1st, left a total of 23 injured in Sarpol-e Zahab, Gilane-Gharb, and Qasr-e Shirin, all of whom were treated on an outpatient basis according to an announcement by the Red Crescent Society.

The Geophysics Institute of Tehran University announced that the earthquake occurred at a depth of seven kilometers beneath the earth’s surface.

Five months ago, an earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale struck the Sarpol-e Zahab region, killing 620 people and injuring more than 12,000, causing severe damage to 100,000 residential units.

During the winter season, due to lack of access to heating equipment and adequate facilities, several earthquake victims, including a number of children, suffered from freezing and died.
