Father and Brother of Farzad Ansari-Far, One of November 2019 Death Toll, Imprisoned
In a continuing crackdown on families of justice-seeking victims, the father and brother of Farzad Ansari-Far have been arrested and imprisoned.
Farzad Ansari-Far was killed by Islamic Republic security forces during the November 2019 protests in Behbahan. His sister announced on Saturday that their father had been imprisoned, and on Sunday, June 26, she announced that her other brother had also been transferred to prison.
Farzaneh Ansari-Far tweeted to Iranian officials, emphasizing that they first killed her brother and then imprisoned her father and another brother, writing: “It is true that oppression is permanent in the Islamic Republic government, but we continue to resist.”
Ms. Ansari-Far also stated on Saturday that her father was being imprisoned for the second time in recent months, describing his arrest as punishment for seeking justice, writing: “He went to prison for the crime of asking who killed my son Farzad Ansari-Far,” and “Death to oppression and injustice!”
In another tweet, she stated that the judiciary had sentenced her to four years and six months imprisonment “for seeking justice,” and her father and brother to three months imprisonment and five years travel ban, emphasizing: “My family is being oppressed. Be our voice.”
Earlier, a source close to this justice-seeking family told Voice of America that Amin Ansari-Far was arrested on February 19 when he appeared in court, and was charged with “testifying at the November 2019 international people’s court” and “interviewing with Masih Alinejad,” while he claims he has not interviewed with Masih Alinejad to date.
Prior to that, on February 8, 2022, a source close to Farzad Ansari-Far’s family told Voice of America that while the second round of the November 2019 international people’s court was being held in London, judicial authorities, while pressuring the family, had opened three separate cases against Farzaneh Ansari-Far.
