Hashtag Iran Regime Change Trends Hours After US Announces New Policy Toward Islamic Republic

Just hours after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s speech and the announcement of a new American strategy against the Islamic Republic, thousands of Twitter users called for the overthrow of the Islamic Republic of Iran using the hashtag #iranregimechange.

On Monday, May 21st, the US Secretary of State announced increased pressure on the Islamic Republic while stating that Washington is prepared to negotiate with Tehran if the behavior of Iran’s religious government changes.

Below we take a look at some tweets from users with the #iranregimechange hashtag:

One user, thanking Mike Pompeo’s speech, wrote that Iranians are in the final battle for liberation from the Islamic Republic regime and need the spiritual support of the United States and the international community.

Another user wrote that Iranians have been hostages for forty years. It is time for those who believe in democracy, human rights, and freedom to show their support. We want change.

Another user, using this hashtag, wrote that the Iranian regime is not reformable. Regime change in Iran is the only way to bring peace and security to the region.

Another user has written that many of those who have thanked Pompeo and used the regime change hashtag see this as an opportunity to break their chains and view it as an end to the reign of terror of the mullahs and Islamic extremists so they can join the free world.

Another user, posting photos of police attacks on people and clerics taking money from a sacred shrine, wrote that this is why we want regime change.

Another user, posting a video of violations of women’s rights, called for regime change.

Another user, posting a photo of the desiccation of one of the lakes, cited the Iranian government’s neglect of environmental issues as their reason.
