Judiciary Chief Orders Immediate Investigation of Evin Prison Guard Conduct Videos

Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje, Iran’s Judiciary Chief, says he has ordered the country’s General Prosecutor to immediately investigate published images of mistreatment of prisoners at Evin Prison.

Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje, in a letter published in Iranian media, has instructed Mohammad-Jafar Montazeri, the General Prosecutor of the country, to investigate “without delay” the content of videos recently released regarding abuse of prisoners at Evin Prison.

In this letter, Iran’s Judiciary Chief asked Montazeri to conduct a “comprehensive investigation with speed and precision” regarding this matter and “the conduct of officers with prisoners or prisoners with prisoners.”

The human rights website Hrana published a video on Sunday, August 22 (31 Mordad), which is said to be related to hacking surveillance cameras at Evin Prison.

The report stated that a hacking group called “Adalet Ali” had hacked Evin Prison’s cameras. In the released footage, scenes of mistreatment of a political prisoner at Evin could be seen, among other things.

Following that, other videos regarding prisoner abuse were posted on social media networks.

Following the release of these videos, Mohammad-Mehdi Hajmohammadi, the head of Iran’s Prison Organization, apologized and described this manner of conduct at Evin Prison as “unacceptable” in a tweet.
