Moderate Earthquake Shakes Kerman and Hormozgan Provinces

Iranian media outlets reported, citing emergency and crisis management officials, that an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9 on the Richter scale occurred 35 kilometers from Sargaz, located on the border between Kerman and Hormozgan provinces.

The United States Geological Survey also announced on its website that the earthquake on Sunday night, December 2, occurred 110 kilometers northeast of Bandar Abbas at a depth of ten kilometers below the earth’s surface.

Mojtaba Khaldi, spokesman for Iran’s Emergency Organization, announced that the earthquake occurred at 7:34 p.m., and reported the dispatch of two assessment teams to the epicenter of the earthquake on the border between Kerman and Hormozgan provinces.

No reports of potential damage have been released yet.
