New York Times: Israel Told US That It Killed a Revolutionary Guard Commander

The New York Times reported, citing an intelligence official, that Israel has told the United States that the country was involved in the killing of Hassan Sayyad Khodayee, a Revolutionary Guard Corps commander.
This report, published on Wednesday, June 24, states that Israeli officials told Americans that “this action was a warning to Iran to stop the operations of a secret group in the Quds Force, which is referred to as Unit 840.”
The New York Times, citing government, military, and intelligence officials, writes that “Unit 840’s mission is the abduction and assassination of foreigners around the world, including Israeli citizens and officials.”
The report, citing the aforementioned intelligence source without mentioning his name, continues: “Colonel Khodayee was the deputy commander of Unit 840 and played a role in designing overseas conspiracies against foreigners, including Israelis.”
Previously, Israeli media reported that the country’s government has increased security measures at its embassies and consulates around the world following the killing of Hassan Sayyad Khodayee.
According to reports by Times of Israel and Israeli TV Channel 13, the country is concerned about a “retaliatory attack” from Iran.
Mr. Khodayee was killed on Sunday, June 15, in east Tehran. The Revolutionary Guard Corps called this incident “a terrorist act” and said that “agents loyal to global arrogance” played a role in it. This military institution also referred to Colonel Hassan Sayyad Khodayee as a “protector of the shrine,” a term used in relation to Iranian forces in Syria’s civil war.
The New York Times continues, citing its intelligence source, that the Israelis told the Americans that Colonel Khodayee was responsible for Unit 840 operations in the Middle East and Iran’s neighboring countries, and “over the past two years played a role in terrorist attacks against Israelis, Europeans, American citizens and officials in Colombia, Kenya, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates.”
Iran has not so far confirmed the existence of a special unit called Unit 840. Iranian officials have also not yet responded to Israel’s accusations against Colonel Khodayee, only warning that Iran “will take revenge.”
