On the eve of Navid Afkari’s execution anniversary; beating and arrest of Saeed Afkari

On Sunday, September 21, on the eve of the anniversary of Navid Afkari’s execution, Saeed Afkari, his brother, was arrested at the entrance of Shiraz city by plainclothes forces accompanied by beating and transferred to an unknown location.
According to Hrana news agency, the news organ of the Iranian human rights activists’ collective, on Sunday, September 21, Saeed Afkari, brother of Navid Afkari, was arrested by 6 plainclothes officers at Quran Gate in Shiraz and transferred to an unknown location.
Mr. Afkari’s arrest occurred on the eve of the anniversary of Navid Afkari’s execution and was accompanied by beating. Mr. Afkari announced yesterday by posting a tweet that security forces had placed pressure on the Afkari family and were attempting to prevent the holding of a ceremony marking the anniversary of Navid Afkari’s execution. Following the publication of this tweet, Mr. Afkari’s personal account has been made inaccessible.
It is also reported that during Mr. Afkari’s arrest, security forces also beat Elham Afkari, his sister.
Navid Afkari and Vahid Afkari were arrested on September 26, 1397, and Habib Afkari was arrested on December 22, 1397, in connection with the nationwide protests of August 1397. These individuals were repeatedly tortured and beaten during interrogations to extract confessions.
These citizens were tried by the Revolutionary Court and the Criminal Court of Shiraz, and Navid Afkari was sentenced to 2 death sentences, 6 years and 6 months imprisonment and 74 lashes, Vahid Afkari was sentenced to 54 years and 6 months imprisonment and 74 lashes, and Habib Afkari was sentenced to 27 years and 3 months imprisonment and 74 lashes.
Navid Afkari, an Iranian wrestler, was ultimately executed on Saturday morning, September 22, 1399, despite serious ambiguities in his case and a global wave of support for him in Adel Abad Prison in Shiraz.
