Over 7,500 Deaths in Traffic Accidents During First Five Months of This Year

During the first five months of the current year, 7,561 people lost their lives in traffic accidents. This figure represents a 1 percent increase compared to the same period last year, when the death toll was 7,489 people. Of the total traffic accident fatalities in the first five months of this year, 5,918 were men and 1,643 were women.
Of this number, 5,020 people died on inter-city highways, 1,838 on urban routes, 502 on rural roads, 52 on dedicated roads, and 149 on other routes.
In Mordad (August) of this year, 1,729 people died in traffic accidents, of whom 1,341 were men and 388 were women. The death toll in Mordad compared to the same period last year, when 1,656 people died, represents a 4.4 percent increase.
During this period, Fars Province had the highest number of fatalities with 612 deaths, followed by Khorasan Razavi with 543 and Tehran with 542.
