Pompeo: The World Should Condemn Khamenei’s Ideology of Hate

In response to Ayatollah Khamenei, who accused the UAE of betrayal on Tuesday, the US Secretary of State called on the world to condemn and reject the “ideology based on hate” of the leader of the Islamic Republic.

Ali Khamenei, in a belated reaction to the UAE’s move to normalize relations with Israel, described the decision as “treason” against the Islamic world, the Arab world, and the Palestinian cause.

According to a report on the website of the leader of the Islamic Republic, he said on Tuesday, September 1st, that the UAE government’s decision is like a “stain of shame” for those who allowed Israel to “enter the region.”

In response to this statement, Mike Pompeo, US Secretary of State, in a tweet posted on Wednesday, September 2nd, condemned the position of the leader of the Islamic Republic and stressed that America stands alongside the United Arab Emirates.

This was Ayatollah Khamenei’s first official position on the UAE-Israel normalization. Officials of the Islamic Republic government have consistently questioned the existence of Israel and threatened its destruction.

Before him, Hassan Rouhani, the President of Iran, had also warned the UAE not to open the door for Israel to enter the Persian Gulf region.

Mr. Pompeo in his tweet once again pointed out an issue that Islamic Republic officials seem to prefer to pass by in silence: the situation of Uyghur Muslims in China.

He continued in his tweet: “If you are looking for someone who betrays Islam, China is trying to eliminate the Uyghurs.”

Mike Pompeo wrote that he is “awaiting a public response” from Ayatollah Khamenei to the Uyghur issue in China.
