Pope Francis Condemns Iran’s Attacks on Iraqi Kurdistan

Pope Francis condemned Iran’s attacks on Iraqi Kurdistan in his remarks.

Following the Israel-Hamas war, Iran, to avenge the Kerman incident, ignited the flames of conflict by attacking Iraqi and Syrian Kurdistan, and subsequently Pakistan. Pakistan responded to Iran’s attack on Thursday with an airstrike on Sistan and Baluchestan, resulting in 9 deaths and several injuries. Subsequently, Benjamin Netanyahu, while condemning Iran’s attacks on Iraq and Pakistan, issued warnings regarding an attack on Iran.

Pope Francis, the leader of Catholics worldwide, also reacted to these attacks and, while calling on all governments to prevent escalation of conflicts in the Middle East and condemning Iran’s missile attacks on Iraqi and Syrian Kurdistan, said: “Good relations between neighbors are not created by such actions, but through dialogue and cooperation. I urge everyone to refrain from any action that fuels tensions in the Middle East and other war scenarios.”

Pope Francis also, while referring to recent wars in various countries, called for prayers for victims of war, particularly the wars in Ukraine, Gaza, Palestine, and Israel.
