Pope Francis’s Representative Meets with Ayatollah Sistani’s Representative in Iraq

Pope Francis’s representative, the leader of Catholics worldwide, met with Ayatollah Sistani’s representative in Karbala, Iraq.

According to “Radna,” Pope Francis’s representative at the Vatican and his companions visited “Sheikh Abdul Mahdi al-Karbalaei” in Karbala during their trip to Iraq and inquired about his health following surgery.

Sheikh Abdul Mahdi, while thanking him for this visit, referred to the situation of Palestinians in Gaza and called for the intervention of all countries in the world regarding the Palestinian people’s situation in Gaza, saying: “We stand with the oppressed in every part of the world, just as we stand against the oppression, persecution and genocide of the Palestinian people.”

Emphasizing that humanitarian principles require us to support the Palestinian nation against their sufferings, he added: “We understand the oppression of Palestinians in Gaza and the killing of thousands of them. Particularly, as international organizations have announced, 70 percent of the victims are women and children.”

Pope Francis’s representative and his accompanying delegation also emphasized support for the people of Gaza and humanitarian stances in dealing with them.

Sheikh Abdul Mahdi al-Karbalaei thanked Pope Francis’s representative and his accompanying delegation for this trip and visit to him, and asked them to convey his greetings to the Pope of the Vatican.
