Profitable Trade with Human Lives in Iran; With Halt of Pride Production Line, Price of This ‘Death Cart’ Reached 100 Million!

Two weeks after the announcement of halting the Pride production line in Iran, the price of this vehicle has shown an upward trend in the market, with one of its models selling for as much as 100 million tomans. This comes despite the fact that even officials of the Islamic Republic have acknowledged that the Pride vehicle is the weakest and most dangerous car available in the Iranian market.
Pride’s high share in road accidents in Iran is so significant that it has been given the nickname “death cart.”
Pride was supposed to replace the Peykan as a domestically-produced and affordable vehicle, but this Saipa automobile production managed to sell for over 90 million tomans in Iran’s monopolistic car market.
Despite numerous admissions by Iranian law enforcement and safety officials about the dangerousness and unsafety of Pride, several foreign automakers have claimed they intended to produce a quality vehicle cheaper than Pride inside Iran, but they were prevented from doing so to keep the profitable and monopolistic Pride market from being compromised.
The United States has repeatedly condemned mismanagement, endemic financial corruption, and the plundering of Iran’s natural resources by those affiliated with the ruling regime, considering them among the main causes of Iran’s economic and financial problems and the people’s poor living and welfare conditions. Among others, Mike Pompeo, the U.S. Secretary of State, tweeted several times about Islamic Republic officials, saying they have engaged in corruption instead of helping the people.
