Protesting Firefighters Gather in Front of Tehran Municipality

A group of firefighters held a protest gathering in front of Tehran Municipality building on Tuesday, the third day of Esfand, and demanded that their demands be addressed.

Low wages and salaries, insurance conditions, housing problems, and the failure to apply hazard pay to their compensation are among the issues that firefighters are protesting against.

During their gathering, firefighters chanted slogans such as “Promises are straw, our table is empty” and “If our problems aren’t solved, the gathering will be repeated.”

“This year’s Chaharshanbeh Suri is a strike, a strike” and “A firefighter dies, but does not accept humiliation” were among other slogans heard during the firefighters’ gathering.

Earlier this year in December, another protest gathering was held in front of Tehran Municipality with the participation of hundreds of firefighters, during which firefighters protested the lack of workplace safety and their living conditions and called for the resignation of Mehdi Davari, the CEO of Tehran Fire Department Organization.

This protest was held on the fifth anniversary of the Plasco building fire and collapse incident; an incident during which 16 firefighters lost their lives.

The economic crisis and rampant inflation in Iran in recent months has led to multiple protest gatherings by various segments of society, including teachers, workers, and retirees.

In some cases, these protests have resulted in the suppression and arrest of protesters by government officials.
