Reza Sharfkhani Arrested

Harana News Agency – Reza Sharfkhani, secretary of the center and committee for pursuing war reparations between Iran and Iraq, has been arrested by security forces and transferred to the detention center of the Intelligence Office in Mashhad.

According to Harana News Agency, the news organ of the collection of human rights activists in Iran, Reza Sharfkhani, secretary of the center and committee for pursuing war reparations between Iran and Iraq, has been arrested.

It is reported that his arrest took place in the emergency section of Razavi Hospital in Mashhad, where he had gone to receive medical services. Mr. Sharfkhani was transferred to the detention center of the Mashhad Intelligence Office after his arrest with the issuance of a one billion toman bail.

Previously, through a notice issued by Branch 903 of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecution of District 9 in Mashhad on July 21, 2022, he was asked to introduce himself to this branch within 5 days from the date of the notice being entered into the TANA system.

Mr. Sharfkhani had previously been summoned on July 4, 2022, through a notice to provide explanations regarding the charges of “insulting officials and employees, slander and spreading false information, and disrupting public order and peace” to Branch 771 of the Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office of District 7 in Mashhad.

On June 24, Reza Sharfkhani’s case was sent to the Mashhad Prosecution following the dissatisfaction of the Martyrs Foundation and the Affairs of the Sacrificed.

Mr. Sharfkhani, secretary of the center and committee for pursuing war reparations between Iran and Iraq, along with Hamid Vahedi and Hossein Mohammadi, had previously been summoned by the Security Police on June 1. Mr. Sharfkhani was also summoned to the Security Police for the third time in April of this year. His summons was made following a complaint from Amir Hossein Qazi Zadeh Hashemi, Vice President and Head of the Martyrs Foundation and the Affairs of the Sacrificed.

As of the time of preparing this report, there is no precise information available regarding the reasons for his summons; however, it is said that his summons took place following a nationwide call from war casualties of the Iran-Iraq War regarding the pursuit of implementation of paragraphs 6 and 7 of Resolution 598.

Mr. Sharfkhani had previously been arrested before.
