Security Personnel in Berlin Coercing Refugees into Prostitution

German media outlets have reported that young refugees, including minors, in a camp in Berlin are being forced into prostitution by security personnel hired to protect them.

According to the report, security personnel are paying substantial sums to these young refugees.

The report states that these guards meet with young refugees and convince them to receive payment for sexual relations.

These guards also persuade young men to engage in sex work and earn good money.

One guard stated: “They need to be a certain age and attractive enough: from 16 years old and up, the younger they are, the more expensive they are.”

Some refugees have also confirmed this report.

An Afghan male refugee whose asylum application was rejected told reporters that security personnel offered him prostitution.

He said he feels ashamed of having done this work, but he needed the money. He received 30 euros for each instance of sex work.

A social worker employed at the refugee camp in Berlin said he witnessed security personnel giving money to refugees.

The Organization for Social Integration, Labor and Social Services in Berlin announced that although they found substantial evidence confirming this matter, they will continue to investigate until all facts about this case are clarified.

The United Nations reported in September that 75 percent of young refugees who migrate to Europe are forced into prostitution and subjected to sexual harassment.
