Suicide Attempt by Two Children in Bandar Abbas Results in Death of 8-Year-Old Girl

An 8-year-old girl in Bandar Abbas attempted suicide by hanging and died. A 12-year-old neighboring girl who attempted suicide simultaneously stated that they carried out the act due to severe family conflicts and being influenced by the suicide of one of their friends. This child was identified as a suspect and, by judicial order, was handed over to the Social Welfare Organization of Bandar Abbas City for custody. The share of Iranian adolescents in annual suicides has been reported by the Forensic Medicine Organization to be more than 7 percent.
According to Hrana news agency, citing IRNA, an 8-year-old girl named Aylar in Bandar Abbas attempted suicide by hanging and died.
Gholamreza Jafari, commander of the Hormozgan Police, said: “Following a report from the police station of Bandar Abbas district regarding the discovery of the body of an 8-year-old child who had hanged herself in this city and her transfer to the hospital, police forces were dispatched to the hospital to investigate the matter.”
The deceased girl’s father, in the presence of officials, stated: “My daughter went with her neighbor’s daughter to play on the roof of our house last night. When I woke up this morning, I found my daughter was not in the house. I went to the roof and saw that she had hanged herself with a rope.”
Following coordination, a team of intelligence police detectives consisting of crime scene analysis experts and the head of the department of fight against violent crimes was dispatched to the scene, and investigations began with her family and friends.
During police operations, officers became suspicious of one of the deceased girl’s friends, a 12-year-old girl. She stated that on the night of the incident, she went to the roof to play, and due to severe family conflicts and being influenced by the suicide of one of their friends, they decided to commit suicide.
This adolescent girl further stated: “First, I hanged myself, but I couldn’t bear it and saved myself. Then my friend wrapped the rope around her own neck, and then I pulled the rope upward until she lost consciousness. When I saw her condition, I became frightened and tried to save her, but unfortunately, I couldn’t remove the rope from her neck, and out of fear, I left the place.”
Pursuant to the order of the judicial authorities, the 12-year-old girl was identified as a suspect and handed over to the Social Welfare Organization of Bandar Abbas City for custody.
