Suicide of a Teenager in Kohgiluyeh County

On Tuesday, April 19, 2022, a teenage girl residing in the village of Serpari, under the central district of Kohgiluyeh County, committed suicide. The share of Iranian teenagers in annual suicides has been reported by the Legal Medicine Organization to be over 7 percent.

According to Hrana news agency, the news organ of the Iranian human rights activists collective, on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, a teenage girl took her own life.

The identity of this teenager, Fatemeh Khoshbayan, a resident of Serpari village under the central district of Kohgiluyeh County, has been confirmed by Hrana.

An informed source cited financial poverty as the reason for her suicide, stating that her body would be buried on Wednesday, April 20, 2022.

The high rate of suicide in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province, particularly among women and children, has always been one of the concerning issues and a topic of discussion among activists in the field of children’s and women’s rights.

Last March, the governor of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, expressing his concern over suicide statistics in the province and referring to severe deprivation in some areas of the province, stated: “I am ashamed to say that Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province ranks first in suicide rates in the country.”
