70-year heat record broken in Khuzestan; Abadan, 52.2 degrees

The Director General of Meteorology of Khuzestan Province announced that the temperature record in Khuzestan over the past 70 years has been broken, with the air temperature in Abadan reaching 52.2 degrees Celsius.

As Mohammad Sabzehzari said, this temperature was recorded on Monday afternoon, June 20th.

According to him, the highest temperature recorded in Khuzestan in June was in 2010, when it was 52 degrees Celsius.

He said: "Today's temperature record in Khuzestan (52.2 degrees) is only 14 degrees lower than the 70-year record of Iran's maximum absolute temperature in June, which is 52.6 degrees Celsius."

The Khuzestan Meteorological Department had issued an orange level warning of rising temperatures in the province, and based on this warning, Khuzestan government offices and institutions were closed on Monday.

The deputy director of medical treatment at Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences also announced that medical centers were on alert following the prediction of extreme heat in Khuzestan Province.
