8,500 Child Laborers Identified in Iran During First Half of This Year

A senior official at Iran’s Welfare Organization announced that nearly 8,500 child laborers and street children were identified in Iran during the first six months of 2018.

 

According to Mehr news agency, Habibollah Masoud Faridi stated that during the first six months of the current year, these children have referred to and been admitted to “support centers.”

The Deputy for Social Affairs at Iran’s Welfare Organization added that fifty percent of child laborers are “non-Iranian nationals,” and this figure reaches 70 percent in cities such as Tehran.

Earlier, Nahid Taj al-Din, a member of the social commission of the tenth parliament, had stated that according to statistics, the number of child laborers in Iran is between 3 to 7 million people.
