Air Pollution in Zahedan Reaches 40 Times the Permissible Limit

The head of the Meteorological Department of Sistan and Baluchestan province announced on Thursday that air pollution levels in Zahedan have reached 40 times the permissible limit.

Mohsen Haidari told ISNA news agency that the concentration of suspended particles in the air of Zahedan and the spread of dust and sand is such that the horizontal visibility range in some areas has been reduced to 200 meters.

He attributed the increase in air pollution in Zahedan to the formation of a massive dust and sand mass in the border plains with Pakistan, which has penetrated into Zahedan with wind gusts.

Air pollution in Iran’s major cities in recent years has become one of the environmental problems, and a number of experts criticize the performance of Islamic Republic officials in this field.
