Civic Rights Defense Association Says It Will Soon Sue Officials Responsible for Coronavirus Response

The Civic Rights Defense Association announced in a statement that it will soon file a lawsuit against responsible officials at the Ministry of Health and the National Coronavirus Taskforce.

In this statement, the arrest of Mehdi Mahmoudian, Arash Keikhosravi, and Mostafa Nili, three members of this association, has been condemned, and association members, calling the detention of these individuals illegal, have demanded their immediate release.

These three members of the Civic Rights Defense Association and six others were arrested on August 14 following a meeting held to file complaints against some officials involved in combating the coronavirus.

According to a spokesman for the Judiciary, five of the detainees were released on bail.

The Judiciary of the Islamic Republic has announced the charges against these individuals as “disruption of public order” and other allegations related to national security.

Several journalists and political and civil activists have also been summoned to judicial authorities in recent weeks due to criticism of the government’s performance in combating the coronavirus.

Mortality from coronavirus infection has sharply increased in recent weeks, largely due to mismanagement in fighting the coronavirus.
