European Negotiators Describe JCPOA Revival Talks Situation as ‘Urgent’

One day after the eighth round of JCPOA revival talks began in Vienna, negotiators from Britain, France, and Germany described the status of these negotiations as “urgent” in a statement on Tuesday.

The three negotiating countries stated in their statement: “It is clear that we are approaching a point where the escalation of Iran’s nuclear program activities makes the JCPOA completely meaningless. The negotiations are very urgent and our delegations have come to Vienna in good faith to reach an immediate agreement.”

In this statement, France, Germany, and Britain described 60 percent uranium enrichment as unprecedented for a non-nuclear weapons state.

They added that they do not intend to set an unrealistic deadline for the end of talks, but these negotiations will likely conclude within weeks rather than months.

Enrique Mora, the European coordinator of the JCPOA talks who chairs the negotiations, said on Monday that all parties “demonstrate clear willingness for a successful conclusion,” but both Tehran and Washington must make difficult political decisions.
