Health condition of Kurdish political prisoner deteriorates after 11 years of imprisonment

The general health condition of Zeinab Jalilian, a Kurdish political prisoner in Khoy Prison, has worsened due to prison officials’ refusal to provide her medical treatment.

According to the human rights organization “No to Prison, No to Execution,” Zeinab Jalilian suffers from keratitis, relapsing fever, and severe infection, and has so far been denied medical treatment outside the prison.

She has also been deprived of access to a doctor and medical treatment while in prison.

In September 2017, Amnesty International considered Zeinab Jalilian’s lack of access to medical care as torture.

Zeinab Jalilian, who is spending her eleventh year of imprisonment in Khoy Prison, is from Makoo city and was arrested in March 2008 in Kermanshah.

Iran’s judiciary initially sentenced her to death on charges of moharebeh (enmity against God) and membership in one of the Kurdish parties, and later the appeals court sentenced her to life imprisonment.
