Iran Deploys Forces and Heavy Weapons on Azerbaijan Border

The commander of the IRGC Ground Forces announced that units from the IRGC Ground Forces have been deployed to the border strip with the Republic of Azerbaijan to ensure security in the region. Local activists from Azerbaijan reported the continued transfer of heavy IRGC equipment to border areas.
Mohammad Pakpour, commander of the IRGC Ground Forces, said on Sunday, November 4 (October 25) during a visit to the border areas of East Azerbaijan: “In view of the recent clashes between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia in the region, units of the IRGC Ground Forces have been sent and deployed to this area.”
Pakpour stated that the “Ashura Command of the IRGC Ground Forces” has been active since the first days of clashes between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia in the border region and has monitored and overseen border developments.
This IRGC official emphasized that the territorial integrity of neighboring countries is respected and that “any change in border geopolitics will be a red line for the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
The location where the IRGC commander spoke to journalists was Khoda Afarin, a 35,000-person border town, where Azerbaijani forces recently managed to liberate this border area, which had been occupied by Armenian forces, by capturing the Khoda Afarin bridge.
Ilham Aliyev, president of the Republic of Azerbaijan, congratulated the people of Iran and Azerbaijan on the liberation of the border strip.
Since the start of the Karabakh war until the liberation of these areas, a number of rockets and mortars from both warring sides had hit Iranian soil. However, since the deployment of Azerbaijani forces along the borders, no incidents of mortar or artillery fire or drone flights have been reported.
The commander of the IRGC Ground Forces said security now prevails on the borders and no threat endangers the country.
Deployment of IRGC Mechanized Division on Azerbaijan Border
About a month ago, “SEPAH News” reported that tanks and military equipment were deployed to protect people and establish security on the border strip in the northwest of the country in the areas of Khoda Afarin and Julfa.
Tasnim News Agency reported, citing Mostafa Mohammadi, that the “Imam Zaman Mechanized Division” which operated as part of the 31st Ashura Corps has had an effective presence in the region since the beginning of the crisis in Syria. He also stated that some members of this division were killed in Syria.
Continued Transfer of Heavy IRGC Equipment to Border Strip
However, numerous reports have been published on social media about the continued transfer of heavy IRGC weapons to the Iranian border strip with Azerbaijan.
Tohid Javadi, a media activist, published a video on Sunday, November 4 of the continued transfer of heavy IRGC equipment to the border with the Republic of Azerbaijan on Twitter.
