Lawyer of Haft Tappeh Workers Sentenced to Prison and Travel Ban

By a ruling of the Isfahan Revolution Court, Farzaneh Zilabi, the defense lawyer for protesting workers of Haft Tappeh Company, has been sentenced to one year in prison and a two-year ban on leaving the country.
Naser Zarafshan, Ms. Zilabi’s lawyer, stated that the court’s ruling convicted her on the charge of “propaganda against the system.” He emphasized that this verdict is “the price of defending workers.”
The charges against this lawyer were raised from Ordibehesht of the current year, and the Haft Tappeh Sugar Cane Workers Syndicate described these charges as “file fabrication” and a “flimsy process.”
Haft Tappeh Agro-Industry is Iran’s oldest sugar production factory, with approximately half a century since its establishment. This company faced more widespread problems from 2015 after being transferred to the private sector, and the company’s workers held several protest gatherings in recent months.
These protest gatherings resulted in the conviction of some workers to prison, and despite the cancellation of the privatization ruling of this company, judicial and security measures against protesters continue.
